BEIJING, Oct.30 (Xinhua) -- The Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) has established an innovation center for artificial intelligence (AI), the company said Tuesday.

The AI innovation center aims to facilitate the in-depth application of AI technologies in the development of China's commercial aircraft and to strengthen the company's innovation capacity, said COMAC.

COMAC is the developer of the C919 large passenger aircraft and ARJ21 regional jetliner.

It has joined hands with a Russian partner in developing the CR929, a Sino-Russian wide-body passenger aircraft.

"It is a strategic step for China in exploring AI application in the future of 'intelligent commercial aircraft'," said Wu Guanghui, academician at the Chinese Academy of Engineering and vice president of COMAC.

The AI center will focus on integrating AI into the development of commercial aircraft, and constructing an AI-based innovation platform for aircraft development, said Wu, also chief designer of the C919 aircraft.
