PARIS, June 8 (Xinhua) -- Chinese tennis player Yang Zhaoxuan and her partner Chan Hao-Ching of Chinese Taipei failed to earn a final spot in women's doubles at the 2018 French Open here on Friday.

Yang and Chan lost to Japanese pair of Hozumi Eri and Ninomiya Makoto 6-2, 6-2 in 63 minutes.

"We hoped to give opponents much pressure from the net, but that didn't work quite well because of their excellent moving, and they managed to apply their tactics into the match," said Yang, who began to partner with Chan this February.

The quarterfinal victory over top-seeded Timea Babos and Kristina Mladenovic gave a huge boost in confidence to Hozumi and Ninomiya, both born in 1994, as they took five games in a row to lead 5-1 and wrapped up the first set at 6-2.

The Japanese duo did much better on net points, and didn't let the victory slip away with another 6-2.

"I had not expected to go so far at Roland Garros this time. Clay was not my favorite court, and this year was the first year that I focused a lot on clay.

"After seeing the draw, I had thought that we would have bowed out from the first round, but we succeeded in making into the semifinals here," commented Yang.

Hozumi and Ninomiya will face Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova of Czech Republic in Sunday's final. Enditem
