KAMPALA, June 8 (Xinhua) -- Uganda has dropped eight places to 82nd in the latest rankings by the Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA).

The new FIFA rankings released on Thursday in Zurich showed that Uganda now has 403 points.

The drop is attributed to Uganda's recent results against the Central African Republic and Niger, who defeated the Cranes 2-1 and 1-0 respectively.

"All this is happening because results have not been going our way. But Uganda will improve in the rankings again after the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Tanzania and Lesotho," deputy CEO of the Ugandan FA Humphrey Mandu told Xinhua on Friday.

Current world champions Germany remain at the head of FIFA's leaderboard with 1,558 points, with Brazil and Belgium second and third respectively.

Despite their recent slump, Uganda maintained their dominance in the Council for East and Central African Football Associations (CECAFA) region. Kenya, who dropped by one place in the FIFA rankings to 112nd, are second in CECAFA, while Sudan and Rwanda are third and fourth respectively.

Tunisia, who will feature at the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Russia, are Africa's best ranked nation at 21st.

Elsewhere on the continent, Senegal have improved by one place to 27th, while the Democratic Republic of Congo remain in 38th place.?
