JAKARTA, March 28 (Xinhua) -- An Indonesian athlete has said he is ready to take part in an upcoming marathon event to be held at the geographic North Pole on April 9, saying that his experience climbing up summits at subzero temperature will help him to prevail at the competition.

"I am optimistic that I can be successful at the upcoming once-in-a-lifetime event. I need the support of the Indonesian people," Fedi Fianto said here on Wednesday.

Fedi will join other Asian athletes from Vietnam, Chinese Taipei, China's Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan and the Philippines at the 2018 FWD North Pole Marathon.

Fedi, who is actually a rock climber, said that he has experience undertaking extreme activities in subzero environments, adding that he has climbed Nepal's Ama Dablam Summit at temperatures of below 40 degrees.

Runners taking part in the marathon (which has been dubbed the "World's Coolest Marathon") will have to run 42.195 kilometers in the extreme cold with Arctic ice floes as their running track.
