COLOMBO, April 7 (Xinhua) -- The Sri Lankan government on Tuesday approved the rollout of a national digital public infrastructure framework alongside a GovTech app and service marketplace, in a bid to modernize public service delivery and accelerate digital transformation.

The planned infrastructure will include key components such as a digital identity system, data exchange platforms, and digital payment mechanisms. These systems are intended to serve as the backbone of a unified digital ecosystem, enabling more efficient and accessible public services.

A main feature of the initiative is the creation of the GovTech app and service marketplace, designed to bring together a wide range of government services on a single platform. The system is expected to function as a one-stop access point, reducing administrative complexity and improving service delivery.

Under the program, around 563 digital services are scheduled to be implemented by 2026-2027. The move is expected to streamline processes, and expand access to government services. ■
